Who we are
I’m an architect who, after years of sitting behind a desk and staring out my window at perfect days, craved more freedom - time outside, not just designing spaces but actually living in them.
I eventually left the office and became a van builder. It was fun and it was hands-on, creative work that brought design to life - but it wasn’t accessible to everyone. It took me years to save for my van and then everything else went into the maintenance and constant upkeep. I knew there had to be an easier way to make this lifestyle possible.
So I built my own setup inside a Subaru Outback. I lived out of it while working at a ski resort, snowboarding every day, and later drove it across the country. That little car became my home - and the start of an idea.
The Basecamp Collective was born from that journey: to create beautifully designed, functional systems that bring freedom, simplicity, and craftsmanship to everyone—no shop, no van, no limits required.
Why We Do It
Not everyone has a garage full of tools, the space, or the money to build something custom - and you shouldn’t have to. We started The Basecamp Collective to bridge the gap between good design and real-world accessibility.
We’ve seen how great design can transform the way you live - but we’ve also seen how expensive, overbuilt, or inaccessible those solutions can be. We wanted to change that.
The Basecamp System brings craftsmanship and thoughtful design to people who live simply - whether that’s in an apartment, on the road, or somewhere in between. Every piece is precision-cut, easy to assemble, and made to last - so you can focus less on building, and more on exploring.
